MOCK TRIAL

Preparing Future Leaders Through Legal Competition

Students work with volunteer attorneys to prepare and present a full mock case, culminating in in-person competitions and a State Championship at the Hawai‘i Supreme Court.

MOCK TRIAL PROGRAM

Volunteer attorneys coach high school mock trial teams as they prepare to take a case from start to finish. The program culminates in mock trial competitions between schools and a State Championship at the Hawai‘i Supreme Court.

Similar to last year, this year’s competition will be conducted in-person. Competing in person allows students to build confidence, sharpen public speaking and critical thinking skills, and collaborate more effectively with teammates and legal mentors, all within the same environment in which attorneys practice daily. The courtroom setting also fosters deeper engagement, professionalism, and memorable learning experiences.

The competition will be held on Saturday(s), February 7, 21, 28, and March 7, 2026.

All Hawai’i high schools are invited to participate. If your school is interested in organizing a Mock Trial team, please submit a completed application form (attached), along with the non-refundable $250.00 entry fee, by Friday, December 19, 2025. Teams must have at least seven (7) student participants and at least one (1) coach. If your school would like assistance securing an attorney coach, please contact us.

The 2026 Hawai’i High School Mock Trial State Champion will advance to the National High School Mock Trial Championship. Please be advised that the 2026 National Championship is scheduled for May 7 - 9, 2026 in Des Moines, Iowa.

The 2026 Mock Trial Competition will involve a civil case. The case materials, along with the Competition rules and other related documents can be found the “RESOURCES” section.
