
SECTION purpose
Purposes of the Solo & Small Firm Section
- Developing a network among practitioners which promotes collegiality through professional and social interaction including through the exchange of experiences, ideas and opinions;
- Furthering the interests and enhancing the image of the Hawaii State Bar Association and the Section membership;
- Educating members and advancing ethical behavior and standards in accordance with the Hawaii Rules of Professional Conduct;
- Serving as a representative for the membership before the Hawaii State Bar Association and for it subject to appropriate authorization;
- Adopting and promoting positions and/or practices before the Hawaii State Bar Association, the American Bar Association, the Hawaii State Legislature, or any other body which might otherwise impact membership interests;
- Inviting, providing, and otherwise advancing programs and collaborations to support and further members in their practice and in improving the legal profession, including but not limited to resources addressing best practices in law firm development and management, solo and small firm lawyering, increases in efficiency and productivity, and other related topics;
- Suggesting or providing presentations or writings to interested groups, publications, or other affiliations as approved by a two-thirds majority of the board;
- Assisting the membership and the entities impacting it in the formulation of new ideas, policies, practices, and/or directives for the purpose of protecting the interests of the membership and the consumers it serves in the changing practice of law;
- Communicating and cooperating with the other sections, divisions, committees, and the Hawaii State Bar Association as a whole on matters of solo and small firm practice which affects them;
- Creating and overseeing special committees on various subject matter areas as deemed appropriate;
- Taking any other such action as may be necessary or appropriate to accomplish the purposes of this Section as expressed in these bylaws.
