Admiralty

SECTION purpose

Purposes of the Admiralty Law Section

  • To develop and encourage the highest standards of conduct for attorneys in the State of Hawaii, and particularly among attorneys practicing in the admiralty law field in the state;
  • To aid and assist the members of the Hawaii State Bar Association, and particularly Section members, in the performance of their legal duties;
  • To provide a forum for the exchange of experiences, ideas and opinions with respect to admiralty law through discussion, study and publication;
  • To consider all matters of legal interest relating to admiralty law;
  • To engage in educational and related activities;
  • To sponsor, encourage and promote scholarship in the admiralty law field;
  • To sponsor, encourage and promote membership in the Maritime Law Association of the United States, and to encourage participation by members of the Section in the activities of the Maritime Law Association of the United states;
  • To collect, analyze and disseminate information as to legislation, rule making and judicial decisions concerning admiralty law;
  • To initiate, sponsor and promote within the Association legislation and uniform laws, and standards of conduct and competence, when necessary and appropriate or in the public interest;
  • To promote good fellowship among the members of the Section;
  • To serve as spokespersons for the Hawaii State Bar Association, subject to appropriate authorization; and
  • To take such action as may be necessary or appropriate to accomplish the purposes of this Section as expressed by these Bylaws and the Constitution of the Hawaii State Bar Association.
