Summary:
Artificial intelligence tools—especially large language models (LLMs)—are transforming the way lawyers practice. From drafting briefs to client communication, AI promises speed and efficiency, but it also raises novel ethical risks. This program will explore how generative AI intersects with the Hawai?i Rules of Professional Conduct, including competence, confidentiality, candor to the tribunal, and firm-wide supervision.
Participants will learn how courts and regulators are responding to AI use, common pitfalls such as hallucinated citations, and practical best practices for safe adoption. Attendees will leave with a grounded understanding of AI’s potential in law practice and the guardrails needed to use it responsibly—without risking their license.
