About Us

The Hawaii State Bar Foundation is a nonprofit organization organized exclusively for the following purposes:

(1) To promote justice through programs such as access to justice for persons in need of legal services, civics education, and other public service programs and projects, including programs and projects of the Hawaii State Bar Association;

(2) To improve the administration of justice through the creation, development, funding, and delivery of continuing professional and legal education, and leadership, mentoring and other programs for the legal profession;

(3) To support the charitable, scientific, literary, religious, or educational missions of the Hawaii State Bar Association, its Divisions, and Committees; and

(4) To operate exclusively for charitable, scientific, literary, religious or educational     purposes, within the meaning of Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code(or the corresponding provision of any future United States internal revenue law) (the "Code").

The HSBA is the sole member of the Hawaii State Bar Foundation, and elects all of the Hawaii State Bar Foundation’s Directors.

BUILDING A LEGACY OF GIVING

Since its formation in 2012 the Hawaii State Bar Foundation has sponsored the Annual Hawaii State Bar Association Fundraiser Dinner. Proceeds from each year’s Annual Dinner and the Foundation's Fellows Program fund projects and activities consistent with Foundation and Association goals and objectives in the subsequent grant awards cycle.

Hawaii State Bar Foundation's fourth annual grant-making cycle has begun!

HSBF will be accepting grant applications until June 30, 2019. Here are links to HSBF's grant-making policy and its one-page application form  , with instructions on additional submissions as needed.

HSBF is seeking grant applications from organizations and programs improve the delivery of legal services to those in need, facilitate access to justice, increase public understanding of the law in Hawai`i communities, and otherwise further HSBF's mission.  Please feel free to spread the word to deserving programs and nonprofits.
