The 2024 High School Mock Trial Competition is currently underway. This year, teams from all judicial districts are competing in a hybrid competition (in-person and virtual). The Mock Trial problem this year is entitled The Pahala Chapter of Friends of `Alala v. Zenopharma, Inc. We are so proud of the schools that are competing and are excited to see the competition season unfold. The winner of the competition will represent Hawaii at the National Mock Trial Competition in May.
I, along with the Mock Trial Committee, have been blown away by the volunteer response from all of you. We are so grateful to have such a supportive community! I would also like to extend YLD’s sincere gratitude to the numerous judges and practitioners who have volunteered their time and/or courtrooms for this weekly competition.
Volunteer attorneys coach high school mock trial teams as they prepare to take a case from start to finish. The program culminates in mock trial competitions between schools and a State Championship at the Hawaii Supreme Court.
Volunteer attorneys visit 3rd, 4th & 5th grade classrooms statewide and help students to think about the challenges they face each day and how they can make ethical decisions when “feeling the pressure."
The Young Lawyers Division, YLD, provides free legal information in person at different locations throughout the state and via phone calls on KHON2’s Action Line during Law Week
Volunteer attorneys host a telephone hotline every Wednesday evening from the hours of 6:00 p.m. – 7:00 p.m. Legal Line is limited to the hour. The volunteer attorneys provide free legal information to the public. Call (808) 537-1868 for free legal information.
We invite and encourage members to take an active role in Young Lawyers Division!
