(RECORDED)

Summary:
Smartphones are now our companions for work, social, leisure, and even family life. However, excessive use can lead to problems of dependence, addiction, and anxiety. Whether realized it or not, the COVID-19 pandemic was a traumatic event in everyone’s lives. During quarantine, gradual incremental increases in responsibilities and duties, pressures and demands, personally and professionally has placed our profession at risk.
Recent studies have shown that there has been a dramatic increase in impairment due to alcoholism, addiction, and mental health disorders among members of the legal profession. The statistics are compelling and clearly indicate that 1 out of 3 attorneys will likely require services for substance abuse or mental health at some point in their careers.
This course examines the negative impacts of technology on lawyers, how the pandemic exacerbated this public health crisis, and what strategies can be developed in one own’s life to help safeguard personal wellbeing.
