HSBA Executive Director's Message Cathy Betts
|
First of all, a huge thank you for making Law Day 2026 on May 1st such an overwhelming success. Over 100 HSBA members renewed their oaths statewide. A heartfelt mahalo to the Hawaii State Judiciary, including CJ Recktenwald (ret.), Justice Ginoza, Justice McKenna, Judge Hamman, Judge Soong, Judge Nagata, Judge Jackson, and Judiciary staff for welcoming attorneys into their courtrooms for this momentous occasion. We also had several retired judges join us statewide to renew their oaths. As commented by many HSBA members, retaking the oath is a poignant and sometimes emotional experience for many of our members. It’s a reminder of the dignity of the profession and of the ethical values we swore to uphold when we started out as new lawyers. Thank you for making this event memorable and meaningful.

HSBF President's Message Ilana Waxman

On behalf of the Hawaii State Bar Foundation, I want to thank the Hawaii legal community for another successful Law Day Golf Tournament. This year’s tournament was both a great success in raising funds for Access to Justice and a meaningful opportunity to come together for a shared purpose.

YLD President's Message Lauren Watanabe
|
From the bustling in-person legal clinics to the busy telephone lines of Legal Lines, our volunteers demonstrated a steady commitment to providing the public with accessible legal information - a huge step in our organization’s commitment to bridging the gap between the public and the legal profession.

SCD President's Message Harvey Demetrakopoulos
|
Lately I have heard of some unpleasant friction between some lawyers in our community. It seems some people are occasionally more testy or combative than we are used to, and some are unnecessarily obstructive or rude. Whether it’s a generational difference, or because we communicate online more often than we do by phone or in person, somehow the spirit of cooperation seems to go by the wayside for some.
