HSBA Board Action

The HSBA Board took the following actions at its meeting in November 2025:

  • Adopted the recommendation of the joint Executive-Finance Committee to approve the proposed 2026 HSBA operating budget;
  • Voted to increase the pro hac vice fee for 2026 from $150 to $200 due to the increased workload in processing the pro hac vice applications;
  • Adopted the recommendation of the HSBA Nominating Committee to appoint/reappoint the following individuals to the Hawaii Access to Justice Commission and Hawaii State Bar Foundation for a three-year term beginning January 1, 2026:
    • Hawaii Access to Justice Commission: Jeremy Butterfield and Derek Kobayashi
    • Hawaii State Bar Foundation: Nelisa Asato, Aaron Creps, Carol Kitaoka, Daniel Lam, Marissa Machida, and Trevor Tamashiro

The District Family Court and the District Court of the First Circuit are accepting applications on a rolling basis from attorneys interested in serving as per diem judges. The application form is posted on the Judiciary website.

Third Circuit Court Seeking UIM Arbitrators

The Administrative Judge of the Third Circuit Court is seeking attorneys interested in serving as court-appointed arbitrators in disputes relating to motor vehicle insurance policies pursuant to Chapter 431:10C, Hawaii Revised Statutes.

Applicants must be licensed to practice law in the State of Hawai‘i on active status. Applicants should have experience in civil litigation and/or arbitration and must be willing to accept cases in the Third Circuit.

Criminal Division of the First Circuit Court Seeking Attorneys

The Criminal Division of the First Circuit Court is seeking attorneys interested in serving as court appointed counsel in criminal cases.

Applicants must be licensed to practice law in the State of Hawaii and have experience in litigation and/or criminal practice. Applicants should indicate whether they have a preference of offense classifications for which they would like to be considered.
