The Hawaii State Bar Association explored the idea of creating a Senior Counsel Division during its 2008 and 2009 bar strategic planning process. The Senior Counsel Division is a bar initiative to serve and engage our members who are age 50 and older, which comprises half of our membership. During the bar's strategic planning, a key focus was to look to ways to both serve and engage this segment of the bar. Thus, a planning committee was formed to explore developing a Senior Counsel Division (SCD). The division was formally established April 23, 2009 upon the HSBA Board's approval of the SCD Bylaws.
The Hawaii State Bar Association’s Senior Counsel Division will continue to host Coffee Hours in 2021. Please stay tuned for more interesting topics!

On Saturday, November 16, 2019, the Senior Counsel Division held its first annual free legal clinic at the Palolo Learning Center. The twelve volunteer lawyers did a marvelous job of meeting with event participants. Although the community turnout was relatively light, the legal assistance provided was well received and much appreciated. We have been invited back next year with the promise of stronger community turnout.
We invite and encourage members to take an active role in Senior Counsel Division!
