Did you know that the Hawaii State Judiciary has published “Guidelines of Professional Courtesy and Civility”? These are guidelines to be embraced and aspired-to by attorneys in the Aloha State. However, as the practice of law changes and grows, these basic tenets are overlooked or forgotten.
Join us for this presentation by one of the original drafters of the guidelines and two HSBA members. The panel will review:
- Real-life examples of acceptable and unacceptable behavior;
- Provide insight into the purpose and formation of the Guidelines; and
- Explore ethical obligations that are emerging with new technologies.
This will be a practical seminar focused on our profession’s commitment to collaboration, cooperation, and civility.
About the speakers:
Justice James Duffy is a retired associate justice of the Hawaii State Supreme Court, a respected mediator, and one of the drafters of Hawaii’s Guidelines on Professional Courtesy and Civility.
Gail Cosgrove is a partner at Goodsill Anderson Quinn & Stifel LLP and has a practice that focuses on medical liability litigation.
David Hoftiezer is an Associate at Goodsill who practiced anti-corruption law prior to working as a litigator and environmental attorney in Hawaii.
