Divorce is seldom easy and can impact life in complex ways, particularly when it comes to finances. Often, one spouse handled much of the family finances, leaving the other with a knowledge gap to fill. Helping clients understand and take control of their financial lives going forward is a critical part of the divorce process. Understanding what can be done before the divorce is finalized is essential to your client’s financial interests. Dividing assets (especially the home) and debt can be a complicated process as poor planning may leave clients unable to achieve their goals such as education and retirement. This presentation will highlight important financial considerations for a client before, during, and after a divorce.
