Don’t be afraid of the ODC Letter!  Avoid one by understanding what the common grievances are! If you do receive one, know how to respond.   Come to this seminar to gain a better understanding of how the ODC processes complaints and grievances. 

 

The Office of the Disciplinary Counsel plays a very important role in upholding the integrity of the legal profession as well as protecting the public.  Discover what the most common complaints the ODC receives are, and how to properly respond if you receive an ODC letter.  Bruce Kim, Assistant Disciplinary Counsel will present this HSBA CLE to help explain the disciplinary complaint, investigation, and resolution process.

 

Mr. Kim obtained his J.D. from Seattle University School of Law in 1978.  He then returned home to Hawaii to practice law in Honolulu.  His spent over 30 years in civil litigation before he was appointed Executive Director of the Hawaii Office of Consumer Protection in July 2011.  During his tenure as Executive Director, he was responsible for managing the agency and its budget; directing investigations and civil enforcement actions against those who violated consumer protection laws. He also assisted the legislature in formulating new consumer protection laws, revising existing statutes to better protect Hawaii’s consumers, and working to expand consumer education throughout the state.  In 2015, he joined the Office of Disciplinary Counsel and as Assistant Disciplinary Counsel and now prosecutes cases of lawyer misconduct.
