Cannabis is Legal: Why Can’t I Keep My Bank Account?
(RECORDED)

Summary:
This seminar will discuss the following: the reasons banks don’t want to have accounts for related cannabis businesses, why banks ask for so much information, and what the future of banking and cannabis may be (bills in Congress). Interspersed is the Farm Act, which legalized industrial hemp, which looks surprisingly like cannabis, and has been testing “hot” (over the 0.3% THC) in Hawaii.  So now farmers are facing the same problems as the medical dispensaries.

Speaker:
Iris Ikeda,
Hawaii State Commissioner of Financial Institutions

In December 2018, Governor David Ige re-appointed attorney Iris Ikeda as the State Commissioner of Financial Institutions. Ms. Ikeda has been the Commissioner since January 2011, first appointed by Governor Neil Abercrombie.

Commissioner Ikeda serves as the chair of the CSBS Legislative Committee and vice-chair of the State Coordinating Committee (which coordinates all multi-state exams with the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (“CFPB”)). Ms. Ikeda served as Chairperson of the Conference of State Bank Supervisors (“CSBS”) District V (twelve Western states) for five years and was a member of the CSBS Finance Committee. CSBS is the national association of state bank supervisors.
