Section Membership

Sections are intended to provide HSBA members and others who share like interests a forum to develop and improve education and technical skills and to communicate and act upon matters of common interest.

Any member of the HSBA can join any section and expertise in a given area of practice is not a prerequisite for joining a section. The HSBA Board may, in its discretion, approve any section's proposal for limiting membership. In no case, however, will section membership be restricted on the basis of criteria which are not relevant to the purposes of the section. See application for membership.

Associate Members

Non-HSBA members may be eligible to join any section as an associate member upon application to and approval of the section chair. Such individuals will be entitled to the same section benefits as HSBA members except that such non-HSBA members may not vote, hold elected office, or be counted in determining the presence of a quorum. Associated members shall not advertise or hold themselves out as members of the Hawaii Bar or any of its sections, nor shall they use or knowingly permit the use of their associate membership status in any directory or law list for the purpose of soliciting or obtaining business or financial advantage.
