Happy hoildays and mahalo for the privilege of serving as your president this year. My final pitch is to drop by the HSBA offices on December 28 from 4-6 p.m. for our holiday reception to welcome our new 2012 leaders, including executive director Pat Mau-Shimizu and HSBA President Carol Muranaka. We will also bid aloha to our departing 2011 leaders including current executive director Lyn Flanigan. (P.S. And don't forget that year-end gift to one or more of our legal service providers to support their work in increasing access to justice!)
We look forward to seeing you on December 28! Click the invitation below for full details.

A Message from YLD President Levi Hookano:
Well, here we are at the end of a very successful year with the YLD. The year has passed by very quickly and the YLD has accomplished so much in such a short amount of time. We have completed another successful year of the High School Mock Trial Competition, reached more people during our Law Week clinics than ever before, partnered with KHON’s Action Line on two occasions, taught our elementary school students about making good decisions in their lives, and seen the generosity of our attorney volunteers in the wake of devastating natural disasters.
Everything that we have done this year could not have been accomplished without the dedication of the YLD officers and directors and the countless volunteer hours put in by your fellow attorneys. I can honestly say that 2011 has been a culminating year for the YLD. Although we have all done so much in 2011, I also know that 2012 will bring even greater rewards under the leadership of John Roth and our new Executive Director, Patricia Mau-Shimizu. These are exciting times, and having spoke to all of the newest lawyers in Hawaii I know the future of the legal profession is in good hands.
I’d especially like to thank our Treasurer, Leighton Hara, with whom I have served on the board for several years and we both will departing the board this year. Best of luck to the 2012 board and everyone please have a safe and happy holidays and new year!
