In a departure from the past, this year’s annual HSBA fundraising dinner will be held this Summer instead of this Fall and will be held outside of
Waikiki.
Please mark your calendars for
July 19, 2008 at 6:00 p.m. for the 2008 HSBA fundraising party, which will be held at the
Hawaii
State
Art Museum (the former Armed Forces YMCA located next to the State District Court building and across from
Alii Place).
This will be a casual attire event catered by Ed Kenny, Jr. of Town and Downtown restaurants. Music, entertainment, and a return of the silent auction also will be featured. Proceeds will help to benefit the Hawaii Justice Foundation and the Friends of Family Specialty Courts, a non-profit organization dedicated to support and enhance the lives of the families and youth who participate in the juvenile drug court, family drug court, and “girl’s court” of the State’s First Circuit Court.
I encourage you to attend not only to support some very worthy organizations, but also to spend a relaxing evening with colleagues and friends over fine food and drink. More details in coming weeks.

This year, our Young Lawyers Division is committed to providing our members with the most fun and rewarding experiences. A well-rounded attorney (who has a balanced family, work and extra-curricular life) is a busy (but happy) attorney. As evidenced by the wide variety of programs planned during the next few months, we know how to work hard, party hard, and give back to the community.
13th Annual North Shore BBQ (Saturday, March 15, 2008.) The YLD, along with Lexis-Nexis and the William S. Richardson School of Law Surf Club is co-sponsoring the 13th annual UH Law Surf Club's BBQ/Potluck at Chun's on the North Shore THIS Saturday, March 15, 2008. Click here for the official flyer with more info and here for directions.
YLD Social @ Pearl (Tuesday, March 18, 2008 @ 5:30 p.m.) Please join fellow YLD members as we relax and celebrate our first YLD “happy hour” of the year. For more information, please click here.
Junior Judges (April 21-25, 2008.) Due to an overwhelming response from elementary schools (over 140 presentations have been requested to date), we are still in need of volunteers to help with our Junior Judges program. Click for a list of participating schools and or a volunteer sign-up sheet.
For more information on the projects listed above, or to volunteer, please contact Tammy Takara at ttakara@hsba.org or (808)537-1868.

Financial Planning 101
What should you be doing with your money? Got loans? Investing in Retirement? Saving or Squandering?
Now that you are a lawyer and (hopefully) earning some money, what should you do with it? Come listen to Verne Takagi, experienced financial planner, share his tips about money basics--earning, spending, saving, investing, and planning for the future. If there is one piece of advice any financial planner will give you, it is that the best time to learn about money management is now while you are still a young lawyer!
Food will be provided.
Where: HSBA Conference Room, 1132 Bishop St., Ste. 906
When: April 4th, 12:00 - 1:00 pm
Please RSVP to Tammy at ttakara@hsba.org
